During the Picente Administration the County has seen significant economic growth. Just this past year Utica/Rome Metropolitan area has added 1200 new jobs and unemployment is lower than the state average at 6%.
Griffiss International Airport:
The Picente Administration has continued it’s commitment to develop the Airport and Griffiss Business and Technology Park in Rome. The park now has over 45 business and 4500 jobs. Griffiss is also one of only 6 FAA Test Sites for Unmanned Aerial Systems in the Country. It’s a new industry of innovation and Oneida County is leading the effort as an active partner in the NUAIR Consortium.
A continued focus of the Picente Administration is Cyber Security. Working with Rome Labs, Utica College, the Griffiss Institute and many others Oneida County, in the past eight years, has become an industry leader in Cyber Security, not only with numerous firms doing business here but leading the way educationally as the field develops and evolves.
In Marcy, over the past eight years, we have seen Nano Technology become a reality.
SUNY IT and CNSE, in no small part because of the County’s commitment to Nano as an a field of study and economic engine, have merged to create SUNY POLY, a permiere nanotechnology university here in Oneida County and Albany.
Quad C at SUNY Poly has grown in the past two years from one building with 145Million dollars in investment and 1300 new jobs to two buildings, over 200million dollars in investment and 2100 new jobs.
The Marcy Nanocenter site continues to be developed to hold up to three Nano Technology Chip Fabrication Plants and up to 5000 jobs as well as countless spin off industries and opportunities.
